Dr. C. L. Kaul (October 10, 1936 – February 16, 2018) was a distinguished figure in pharmaceutical sciences, renowned for his pivotal role as the Founder Director of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in India. Dr. C. L. Kaul earned his B.Pharm. and Ph.D. before joining Ciba-Geigy in 1965. He later became R&D Director at Boots Pharmaceuticals. In 1994, he took on the monumental task of establishing NIPER, guiding the institute to international acclaim over a decade-long tenure.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kaul was dedicated to the discovery and pre-clinical development of new drugs, pharmaceutical formulations, and bioavailability studies. His scholarly contributions include approximately 150 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, 20 patents, and four book chapters. His leadership extended to the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), where he held roles such as Honorary General Secretary, Vice President, and President. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was honored with the IPA Fellowship in 2000 and the Eminent Pharmacist Award in 2002.
